INTRODUCTION
===============
From time immemorial woo has been used as a medium of Art. To-day , we have amongst us Dr. Phani Basu who has selected WASTE- wood as his medium of Expression in this field of Visual Art . Phani Basu is unique in the sense that he comnines Science and Art in tha way that , he is a medical Specialist and at the same time a Poet, a Play-wright, a painter , , a writer and now , -- a Waste wood -sculptor
To-day we have quite a few pieces of his Waste- wood with Natural bends and which have been sculpted with creative touch by Phani Basu .

Mrs. M. Pandey ; Dr. Phani Basu , how is it that you took up wood speciallt Waste -wood as media of your artistic expressions ?
Dr. Phani Basu : well that was a situation and a coincidence.
About 20 Yrs. back when I first came to Delhi , I was fed with the idea that Delhi was a Cultural desert nothing subtle really grew here. And as an artist and a Poet I almost experienced it , hard and sharp . So and soon I felt frustrated and lost. And being a poet - (inborn ) I even started suffering from nostalgia and was planning to go back to my root i.e Bengal.
Then one day ,while visiting some tombs and monuments in this Desert-land I saw a thick green and robust CACTUS rising straight defying the hostile summer Sun and trying to assert itself . Almost instantly I regained my faith and I decided to stay and grow here like that CACTUS . I went on searching and searching to know how other trees / plants reacted to this DELHI-Climate '. Thus and this led me to my new Path and discovery i.e finding Life and Expressions in trees even among dead trees or their branches and roots , And soon it was like a Revelation !
